Review of Unsouled by Neal Shusteman and Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Unsouled is the third book in the Unwind Trilogy and it continues to show the adventures of Risa, Conner, and Levi three kids who were set to be unwound before the made a run for it. This book shows the trio on a mission to stop unwinding for good, by finding the person who made unwinding possible in the first place. The most interesting part is when you discover how unwinding became so popular and the government’s views on it. This is a must read for anybody who likes dystopias. Cruel Beauty is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast what makes this retelling stand out is all the different mythologies that make up the stories’ world. It had Greek Myths like Persephone and Hades. Nix the main character has known for all her life that she was going to be sacrificed to the feared demon called the Gentle Lord, but what he doesn’t know is that she has been training her whole life to defeat him. Upon arrival she learned that the Gentle Lord was not at all what she expected. I think the ending needed more of a punch though. It would have been better if they had introduced Lux to Nix’s family. I would recommend this book to fans of fairy tale retellings or mythology buffs. I am now reading Hex Hall, Humanity Surviving The Plague and Somber Island.
